Don’t fall for Kroger “gift card” scam

Kroger is warning its customers to watch out for a scam claiming that Kroger is giving away $250.00 gift cards. The hoax is making its way around social media like Facebook, but the grocery giant krogersays it’s bogus.

The company posted a warning on Tuesday on its own Facebook page: “Attention Kroger Customers: There is currently an unauthorized ‘$250 Kroger gift card giveaway’ circulating on Facebook. This giveaway is not affiliated with or supported by the Kroger Co. We recommend not engaging with the site or providing personal information. Our team is actively working to address the issue.”

Someone put up a web page with Kroger’s logo, telling victims if they “liked” the page, they would be redirected to another page where they could claim their voucher. But if you attempted to close the page, a popup ad appeared, telling people to stay and claim their prize. It’s unclear whether the site is attempting to extract personal information, but it’s advisable to not click on the ad in the first place.
